Description
Job Title: Cytotechnologist (Traveler)
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Duration: 13 Weeks (6+ months potential extension)
Shift Details: Day Shift (40 hours/week) – Monday to Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM EST
Job Summary
The Cytotechnologist is responsible for the microscopic evaluation and diagnosis of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens to detect infectious, pre-malignant, and malignant conditions. This role ensures accurate laboratory reporting while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine and interpret cytology slides for abnormalities and disease processes
- Document daily workload including slides screened and hours worked per CLIA requirements
- Maintain specimen integrity and proper patient identification
- Enter and report results into laboratory information systems
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, and federal regulations
- Participate in proficiency testing programs as required
Patient Population & Work Scope
- Laboratory-based role supporting diagnostic pathology services
- Gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory, biological, or physical science
- Must meet CLIA requirements (CFR 493.1483)
- ASCP Cytotechnologist certification (CT) or eligibility (must obtain within 1 year if not certified)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with liquid-based cytology (ThinPrep and/or SurePath)
Skills Required
- Microscopic analysis and diagnostic interpretation
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of lab compliance and regulatory standards
- Data entry and laboratory reporting
Technology & Systems
- Laboratory Information System (LIS) for reporting and documentation
Scheduling Details
- Monday to Friday schedule
- No weekends or on-call requirements
Additional Information
- Corewell credentialing required
- No state license required
- COVID vaccination not required
- Onsite role (not eligible for remote work)
