Job Title: Histology Technician

📍 Location: Akron, OH (Akron Campus)

🕒 Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
 

Position Summary

The Histology Technician is responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory procedures to prepare tissue specimens and biological materials for microscopic examination by pathologists. This role requires precision, technical expertise, and adherence to laboratory safety and quality standards in a fast-paced clinical environment.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, accession, and prepare tissue specimens and biological materials for processing
• Perform fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining of tissue samples
• Operate microtome and other histology equipment to produce high-quality slides
• Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stains, and solutions according to protocols
• Ensure proper labeling, storage, and documentation of specimens, slides, and tissue blocks
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure adequate inventory of supplies
• Follow all hospital and laboratory safety policies and procedures
• Assist pathologists and lab staff with research and technical procedures
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas
• Provide support in training and onboarding of new staff
• Stay updated with new laboratory techniques, equipment, and best practices

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma with 2 years of laboratory experience OR
• Associate’s Degree in Science with 2 years of histology lab experience

Certification:

• Histology Technician certification (HT) or eligibility preferred

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a histology laboratory setting

• Strong knowledge of histology procedures and laboratory techniques
• Proficiency in operating microtomes and staining equipment
• Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols accurately
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn lab software systems
