Immediate Hiring – Histology Technician

Summa Health is actively seeking an experienced Histology Technician for a long-term contract opportunity at the Akron Campus laboratory. This role supports pathology services by preparing tissue specimens, biological materials, and body fluids for microscopic examination by staff pathologists.

Excellent opportunity for candidates with strong histology lab experience seeking a stable day-shift assignment.

Schedule

• Shift: Days
• Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
• Days: Monday – Friday
• On-Call: No
• Weekends: No regular weekends listed

Compensation:

• Consistent full-time schedule
• Long-term 16-week assignment

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma + 2 years laboratory experience
  OR
• Associate of Science Degree + 2 years Histology lab experience
• 2+ Years Recent Histology Experience Required
• Histology Technician certification or certification eligible preferred
• Strong attention to detail and laboratory accuracy

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and prepare tissue specimens, body fluids, and biological materials
• Process specimens using fixing, dehydrating, infiltrating, and paraffin methods
• Embed tissue samples into paraffin blocks
• Operate microtome to cut tissue sections to required thickness
• Mount tissue sections onto glass slides
• Perform routine and special staining procedures
• Prepare stains, reagents, and laboratory solutions
• Maintain slide files, tissue blocks, and accurate records
• Perform preventive maintenance on histology equipment
• Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies
• Follow all hospital and laboratory safety standards
• Answer incoming calls and route technical questions appropriately
• Assist with orientation and training of new staff
• Support continuous improvement and new lab procedures

Required Skills

• Experience with Microtome Operation
• Tissue embedding and specimen processing
• Routine and special staining knowledge
• Strong manual dexterity and precision skills
• Computer proficiency for lab systems/documentation
• Ability to follow detailed technical procedures
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
