Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Position Overview

Corewell Health is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our critical care team on a contract basis. This role involves delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill patients in a fast-paced Intensive Care Unit environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to manage complex patient conditions independently.

Work Schedule

  • Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Shift Length: 12 hours
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation).
  • Manage critically ill patients requiring advanced interventions including ventilators, BiPAP, arterial lines, and treatment for conditions such as stroke, DKA, and alcohol withdrawal.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
  • Act as a patient and family advocate, ensuring clear communication and education.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Participate in discharge planning and facilitate smooth transitions of care.
  • Uphold ethical, cultural, and professional standards aligned with ANA guidelines.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately while maintaining accountability for patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required within specified organizational timelines

Experience:

  • Completion of a competency-based orientation program
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) License – State of Michigan
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (within 180 days)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) – within 90 days
