Description

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Client: ICSP (TOPR-0266)
Location: 6439 Garners Ferry Rd., Columbia, SC 29209-0500
Position Type: Contract
Duration: Base Year + Four (4) Option Years
Open Positions: 5

 

Shift Schedule:

  • Day Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Evening Shift: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
  • Night Shift: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
    📅 Monday – Friday (including weekends & holidays as required)

 

Job Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) provides laboratory testing and diagnostic support services in a clinical setting. The role involves performing laboratory procedures, ensuring accuracy of results, and supporting patient care through timely and reliable diagnostics.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory testing across areas such as Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, and Blood Bank
  • Collect, process, and analyze biological specimens
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of test results, including critical values
  • Perform quality control, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments
  • Follow established safety, infection control, and compliance protocols
  • Maintain accurate documentation and patient records within EHR systems (VISTA)
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare teams regarding test results and abnormalities
  • Participate in quality assurance (QA) and quality improvement (QI) initiatives
  • Assist in training and onboarding of new staff

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field
  • Certification as MLT (ASCP or equivalent preferred)
  • Minimum relevant laboratory experience
  • Strong knowledge of lab procedures, specimen handling, and testing protocols

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in testing and reporting
  • Ability to operate laboratory instruments and troubleshoot issues
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment

 

Compliance & Standards:

  • Must adhere to VA, Joint Commission (TJC), AHA, CAP, and FDA standards
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Participate in safety programs and report incidents within required timelines

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and competency assessments
  • Follow strict patient safety and quality standards
  • Maintain professionalism and compliance with federal healthcare regulations
  • Provide availability for scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays
