Shift: 12H Days 12 hr days

 

Unit Notes:* * RN's - Pass/Fail exam on Friday during orientation. OPEN BOOK exam on skills learned - they are given all necessary resources to pass. Must receive a 90% to pass or they will be terminated * *Radius Rule: 50 miles AND candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity.**Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care- refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of contract**Driver's license required at submittal and will be used to determine if candidate is outside 50 miles.****PREFER TRAVEL EXPERIENCE BUT WILL CONSIDER STRONG CANDIDATES WITHOUT**NO LICENSE OR BACKGROUND HITS**Department: Med Surg Neuro - 4th Floor North *Certifications: BLS and NIHSS requiredMS Neuro patients include any med/surg tele patient including strokes, any stable neurological deficit, post neurosurgery procedures in addition to any other Med Surg overflow no RT equipment troubleshooting - # of Beds: 25- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:5-6- Common diagnosis / Types of patients: MedSurg/Tele- joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive- Are RN's required to titrate drips: Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine- Common titratable &/or set rate drips: PCA pumps- Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift Does the charge nurse take an assignment: Yes- Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit Ratios Duties: Yes- 1:10-20- Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit Are RN's required to read their own strips What brand are the tele monitors: Tele techs will interpret, RNs should have some tele awareness- Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling Block scheduling): 0630-1900, 1830-0700 // Travelers will be scheduled. Will approve a limited amount of block scheduling- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend- Holiday Requirements: 2-3 Holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years. - Floating Requirements: Yes to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a MedSurg bed- Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided: RNs: Navy Blue- How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation: 2 days- Additional Notes: Have mechanical lifts in every other room, Big focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness, This unit typically has multiple discharged and admissions in one day- a nurse is successful on this unit when they can manage the business of the day, have good attendance, are a team player, friendly, compassionate, and cares about patients first. They serve patients of all cultures on this unit including Spanish, Karen, Burmeese Cancellation Policy:Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, 3 shifts for assignments that are less than 13 weeks.
