Description

Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6
Unit: Post-surgical medical surgical floor (18 beds)
Patient population: Adult and geriatric medical surgical patients
Common diagnoses/treatments: COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, end-of-life care/hospice, falls, weakness, sepsis, infection
Float requirements: As needed to surgical, neuro, intermediate units (may take med surg level patients)
Orientation provided twice monthly
Work environment: Busy floor requiring team players and strong patient advocates
Equipment used: Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, PCA pumps
Electronic Health Record system: Cerner (experience required)

Schedule & Hours

Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
Weekend hours: Every other weekend
Call requirements: None

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience with Cerner Electronic Health Record system
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

Charge nurse experience
Experience with post-surgical patients, especially orthopedic patients, is beneficial

Education

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required

Additional Notes

Dress code: Scrubs of any color acceptable
The unit cares for post-surgical patients and requires the ability to keep up in a busy environment
