Job Description – CVU RN / Cardiac Progressive Care RN (Varied Shift)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide specialized nursing care in a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (CPCU) and Step-Down ICU setting. The RN will deliver high-quality patient care to telemetry and progressive care patients while utilizing strong clinical assessment, cardiac monitoring, and critical thinking skills.

The ideal candidate will be adaptable, team-oriented, and comfortable floating to multiple acute care units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a cardiac progressive care and telemetry environment
• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and implement individualized care plans
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and interpret telemetry strips
• Deliver primary nursing care to step-down and telemetry patients
• Perform fingerstick blood sugar testing and other routine nursing procedures
• Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and facility protocols
• Operate and monitor specialized equipment including BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitoring systems
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care
• Adhere to infection control, patient safety, and hospital policies and procedures
• Float to other acute care departments based on staffing needs

Unit Information

• Cardiac Progressive Care Unit
• 15-bed unit consisting of:
  • 3 Step-Down ICU beds
  • 12 Telemetry beds

Patient Ratios

• Progressive Care: typically 1:4
• Step-Down ICU: typically 1:3

Schedule

• Varied shifts
• Scheduled 36 hours per week following orientation
• Holiday coverage required
• No on-call requirements
• Hours are not guaranteed

Qualifications

• Active Hawaii Registered Nurse license required by assignment start date
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience preferred
• Recent acute care hospital experience required
• Progressive care and telemetry experience preferred
• Current BLS/BCLS certification required
• ACLS preferred
• PALS preferred
• NIHSS certification preferred

Skills & Experience

• Telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation
• Experience caring for progressive care and step-down patients
• Strong cardiac assessment and critical thinking skills
• Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced acute care settings
• Experience with electronic medical record systems and medication dispensing systems
• Ability to float to multiple hospital units as needed

Floating Requirements

May float to various acute care units including:

• Medical Unit
• Surgical/Pediatrics
• Intensive Care Unit

Dress Code
