Job Description – CVU RN / Cardiac Progressive Care RN (Varied Shift)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide specialized nursing care in a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (CPCU) and Step-Down ICU setting. The RN will deliver high-quality patient care to telemetry and progressive care patients while utilizing strong clinical assessment, cardiac monitoring, and critical thinking skills.
The ideal candidate will be adaptable, team-oriented, and comfortable floating to multiple acute care units as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a cardiac progressive care and telemetry environment
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and implement individualized care plans
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and interpret telemetry strips
- Deliver primary nursing care to step-down and telemetry patients
- Perform fingerstick blood sugar testing and other routine nursing procedures
- Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and facility protocols
- Operate and monitor specialized equipment including BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitoring systems
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care
- Adhere to infection control, patient safety, and hospital policies and procedures
- Float to other acute care departments based on staffing needs
Unit Information
- Cardiac Progressive Care Unit
- 15-bed unit consisting of:
- 3 Step-Down ICU beds
- 12 Telemetry beds
Patient Ratios
- Progressive Care: typically 1:4
- Step-Down ICU: typically 1:3
Schedule
- Varied shifts
- Scheduled 36 hours per week following orientation
- Holiday coverage required
- No on-call requirements
- Hours are not guaranteed
Qualifications
- Active Hawaii Registered Nurse license required by assignment start date
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience preferred
- Recent acute care hospital experience required
- Progressive care and telemetry experience preferred
- Current BLS/BCLS certification required
- ACLS preferred
- PALS preferred
- NIHSS certification preferred
Skills & Experience
- Telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation
- Experience caring for progressive care and step-down patients
- Strong cardiac assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced acute care settings
- Experience with electronic medical record systems and medication dispensing systems
- Ability to float to multiple hospital units as needed
