A Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), also called a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), at the facility located at 669 Agency Main St, Harlem, MT 59526 (Fort Belknap Hospital/Indian Health Service site) is responsible for performing diagnostic laboratory testing and supporting patient care through accurate analysis of specimens.

Typical Job Description for a CLS:

Core Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing in:
  • Hematology
  • Chemistry
  • Microbiology
  • Serology
  • Coagulation
  • Urinalysis
  • Blood banking/transfusion services
• Collect and process patient specimens including blood draws
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments
• Analyze and verify laboratory test results
• Report critical or abnormal findings to physicians and healthcare staff
• Maintain quality control and laboratory safety standards
• Document laboratory procedures and maintain patient records
• Follow federal, state, CLIA, CAP, and hospital regulatory requirements
• Assist with inventory, reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance
• Support physicians and nurses with timely diagnostic information
• Work independently in rural or critical-access hospital settings 

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in:
  • Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Medical Laboratory Science
  • Medical Technology
  • Related biological science field
• Certification such as:
  • ASCP
  • AMT
• Experience in clinical or hospital laboratory work preferred
• Knowledge of laboratory quality control and instrumentation
