Key Highlights – MAIN WEST: Peds/Adult Med-Surg
- CHOMP is a NICOTINE-FREE facility
- All drug screens must be negative for nicotine/cotinine
- Positive results only reviewed if traveler has a prescribed nicotine patch
- Non-legitimate positive nicotine/cotinine results = contract cancellation
- Unit Type: Combined Pediatric & Adult Med-Surg
- No telemetry
- Peds ages: 29 days–15 years
- Beds: 20 private rooms
- Required Certifications:
- BLS
- PALS
- Ratios:
- Peds: 1:4
- Adults: 1:5
- EMR: EPIC
- Charge Nurse: Present every shift; carries 2–3 patients
- CNAs: Available PM shift and as needed on nights
- CNA ratio: 5–7 patients
- Weekend Requirement:
- Every other weekend
- PM shift: Saturday & Sunday
- NOC shift: Friday & Saturday
- Holiday Requirement: One major holiday
- Scrubs: Provided by facility; color = teal
- Monitoring/Respiratory:
- No telemetry
- Continuous respiratory monitoring available (O2 sat, RR, HR, ETCO2)
- Adult HFNC allowed via mobile device
- Peds requiring HFNC transfer to ICU pending tertiary transfer
- Providers/Support:
- Adult hospitalists & intensivists onsite 24/7
- RT available 24/7
- Pharmacy available 24/7 and responds to all codes
- No IV team; IR RNs perform US-guided IVs
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts
- Floating: Only to other Med-Surg units
- Orientation: 3–4 shifts with preceptor
- Common Patient Populations:
- Peds: RSV, croup, bronchiolitis, pneumonia, GI cases, straightforward post-ops
- Adults: Women’s health, adolescents, alcohol withdrawal, dementia/geriatrics, ENT post-ops, appendectomies, cholecystectomies, urosepsis, plastic surgery, SBO, bowel resections
- Must-Have Experience:
- Pediatric and Adult Med-Surg experience required
- Prescreening Focus: Highlight combined peds/adult Med-Surg experience prominently.
