Interventional Technologist I

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Clinical Technician
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week


Job Summary

The Interventional Technologist I assists physicians with minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose, monitor, and treat a variety of conditions without surgery. This role is suitable for those gaining experience in Interventional Radiology or Invasive Cardiology or experienced imaging professionals beginning a career in this specialty.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist providers during procedures such as cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, angiography, device implantation, biopsies, thrombectomy, embolization, and pain management.
  • Operate specialized radiologic equipment to perform diagnostic, interventional, and invasive procedures following scope of practice guidelines.
  • Maintain sterile fields and adhere to safety protocols during procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and provide comfort.
  • Act as a scrub tech assisting providers during procedures.
  • Respond to patient and family inquiries regarding diagnostic testing and results.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure exceptional patient care.
  • Conduct post-procedure quality reviews and ensure documentation meets departmental and accreditation standards.
  • Transfer images and data to electronic health systems and prepare studies for physician reporting.
  • Perform equipment quality control, cleaning, disinfecting, and maintenance per regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist with quality assurance, audits, and performance improvement activities.
  • Provide on-call clinical coverage as assigned, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Support academic partnerships by teaching radiologic students and mentoring new or less experienced team members.
  • Assist with onboarding new team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Completion of a post-secondary health science program, which may include cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, or paramedic/EMT, accredited by ARRT or CCI.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in Oklahoma.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience as a Cath Lab Technologist.
  • Knowledge and skill in medical imaging principles, patient positioning, and medical ethics.
  • Understanding of anatomy and physiology related to specialty imaging procedures.
  • Ability to perform, post-process, analyze, and annotate study data or procedure documentation.
  • Consistent application of sterile field techniques to ensure patient safety.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate care to diverse patient populations.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and standards.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete clinical and non-clinical assignments.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under stress.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills.
  • Dependability and consistent attendance.
  • Sensitivity to patients’ physical and psychological needs.
  • Accuracy in record-keeping and handling of patient information.

  • No prior travel experience required.
  • This position may include on-call duties outside regular hours.
  • Opportunity to engage in teaching and mentorship roles.
