We are seeking experienced Med/Surg Registered Nurses to join one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the country as an ED Boarder RN. This role focuses exclusively on caring for admitted Med/Surg patients boarding in the Emergency Department while awaiting inpatient bed placement.

This is an excellent opportunity for Med/Surg nurses looking to work in a high-acuity academic medical center without requiring previous Emergency Department experience.

• Shift: Rotating Days / Evenings / Nights
• Weekends: As Needed
• Holidays: Required
• On-Call / Callback: Per Unit Needs

🩺 Unit Overview

• Adult Emergency Department
• Over 100,000 patient visits annually
• One of the busiest Emergency Departments in the nation
• Level I Trauma Center
• Boarder nurses care exclusively for admitted Med/Surg patients within the ED

👩‍⚕️ Patient Assignment

• Typical Ratio: 1:5
• Assistive personnel available
• No ED assignment responsibilities
• Focused Med/Surg inpatient care within the Emergency Department environment

🩺 Core Responsibilities

• Care for admitted Med/Surg patients awaiting inpatient placement
• Perform patient assessments and ongoing monitoring
• Administer medications and treatments
• Monitor telemetry patients
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition

🧠 Requirements

• Minimum 2 years Med/Surg RN experience
• Strong Telemetry experience required
• Ability to manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent prioritization and communication skills

🚨 Emergency Department experience is NOT required

✅ Certifications Required

• BLS
• ACLS

Preferred:

• NIHSS

📜 License Requirement

• Active New York RN License
