Experience Requirements

Minimum 1 year of dialysis experience
Acute or chronic dialysis experience accepted
Preferred:
- Both inpatient (acute) and outpatient (chronic) dialysis experience
- ICU or PCU background
Candidate profiles should clearly indicate the type of dialysis experience they possess.

Dialysis Unit Overview

Department: Dialysis
Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS RN Ny license 2 reference covid card/exemption
Patient Population: Adult acute and chronic dialysis patients

Unit & Patient Volume

Dialysis Suite: 4 stations
Dialysis is performed both in the suite and throughout the hospital (ER, ICU, CCU, etc.).
Travelers primarily provide bedside dialysis and must be comfortable working independently.
Dialysis Suite: ~12 patients/day
Bedside Dialysis: ~9–10 patients/day
Individual RN workload: Maximum of 3 patients/day (dialysis treatments average ~3 hours each)

Responsibilities

Cannulation and decannulation of fistulas
Management of dialysis catheters
Operation, testing, and maintenance of dialysis machines
Administration of dialysis treatments
Machine disinfection between patients

Equipment

Fresenius AT 2000 – Bluestar
Portable WRH systems

Leadership & Support

Assistant Nursing Care Coordinators (ANCCs) available each shift
Primary resource/contact: Gigi

Scheduling

Shift Lengths: 12-hour shifts
Typical hours: 8:00 AM–8:30 PM or 9:00 AM–9:30 PM
Schedules created one month in advance
Travelers should be flexible to help fill staffing gaps

Weekend/Holiday/Call Requirements

Weekends: Every other Saturday
Holidays: None required
Call: No call requirement for travelers

Floating

Required throughout the hospital to provide inpatient dialysis services

Additional Information

Scrub Color: Royal Blue
Orientation: 2 classroom days + 1 precepted clinical day
Support Staff: No dialysis tech/CNA currently; hiring in progres
