Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
Location
- Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Labor & Delivery department with:
- 16 labor rooms
- 9 antepartum rooms
- 3 OR suites for C-sections
- 7 triage beds (for patients >20 weeks pregnant with complaints)
- 36 postpartum beds
- Up to 400 births per month
- Patient types: High-risk obstetrics and routine obstetric care
- Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines:
- Labor: 1:1 to 1:2
- Antepartum: 1:2 to 1:3
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour day shifts: 06:30–19:00
- Weekend requirement: Every third weekend (may increase to every other weekend based on unit needs)
- Holiday requirement: 1 major and 1 minor holiday per contract
- Self-scheduling or block scheduling not specified
Clinical Responsibilities
- Circulate in the OR during C-sections
- Competency in normal newborn assessments and routine infant care required
- Occasional floating to Postpartum and house sitter duties
- Titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and pain medications
- Use of nasal cannula for respiratory support troubleshooting
- Reading own telemetry strips not required; telemetry monitoring present in recovery after C-section
- Electronic fetal monitoring system: Obix
Team & Support
- Charge nurse present on both shifts and takes patient assignments
- 2 Obstetric Technicians (OBTs) per shift assist with unit duties
- 24/7 in-house coverage by:
- 3 residents and 1 supervising OB/Neonatologist
- CRNAs for anesthesia
Orientation & Training
- Unit-specific orientation: 2–3 shifts
- Required certifications: BLS, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Intro to Fetal Monitoring
- Must be able to circulate in the OR and perform newborn assessments
Requirements & Policies
- Valid driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity)
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
- Surgical scrubs provided; specific scrub color required
- Return to Office (RTO) needed within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals
