🚨 Now Hiring: Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) | Walnut Creek, CA

Position Overview

Join a highly respected Labor & Delivery team , a Level II Trauma facility known for providing exceptional maternal and newborn care. This opportunity is ideal for experienced L&D nurses who are comfortable caring for high-risk obstetric patients in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.

Labor & Delivery Unit

  • 10 Labor, Delivery, Recovery (LDR) Rooms
  • 2 Operating Rooms & PACU Suites
  • 10 Antepartum Rooms
  • Approximately 240 Deliveries Per Month

Patient Care & Ratios

  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:4
  • Ratios are based on patient acuity and clinical needs

Patient Population

This unit cares for a diverse obstetric population, including approximately 20% high-risk pregnancies.

Candidates Must Be Comfortable Managing:

  • Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO₄) Infusions
  • Insulin-Dependent Diabetes (IDDM)
  • Pre-Eclampsia
  • Placenta Previa
  • Advanced Maternal Age
  • Maternal Cardiac Conditions
  • Multiple Gestation Pregnancies (Twins)
  • Lupus and Other High-Risk Conditions

Procedures Commonly Performed

  • Cesarean Sections
  • Tubal Ligations
  • Dilation & Curettage (D&C)
  • Post-Amniocentesis Care

Support & Resources

On-Unit Support

  • Unit Secretary Available Every Shift
  • Dedicated OR Scrub Technician Every Shift
  • 3 In-House Certified Nurse Midwives (24/7 Coverage)
  • Anesthesia Support Available
  • Pediatricians Available
  • Neonatologists On-Site 7 Days Per Week and On-Call 24/7
  • OB Physicians In-House 14 Hours Per Day

Equipment & Systems

  • EMR: Epic
  • Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
  • Fetal Monitoring: HP Fetal Monitoring System
  • Central Monitoring Available
  • Maternal Monitoring Systems Available in LDR and Recovery Areas
  • Respiratory Therapy Support Available 24/7

Orientation

  • 3–4 Days of Unit Orientation
  • Facility-Specific Skills Testing Required

Floating Requirements

  • Floating Required as Needed
  • Primary Float Unit: Mother/Baby
  • Travelers Float First
  • May Float Between 1–2 Units During a 12-Hour Shift

Scheduling & Weekend Requirements

  • Self-Scheduling Available
  • Must Work 4 of 8 Weekend Shifts Per Schedule Period
  • No Fixed Weekend Rotation

Holiday Requirements

Nurses must be available for:

Winter Holidays (2 of 3)

  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas
  • New Year's Day

Summer Holidays (2 of 3)

  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day (July 4th)
  • Labor Day

Dress Code

Scrubs

  • Hospital-Provided Scrubs
  • Must Arrive and Leave in Street Clothes
  • Scrubs Cannot Be Worn Outside the Facility

Footwear

  • Non-Skid, Closed-Toe Shoes Required
  • Athletic Shoes Permitted
  • Clogs Must Have a Heel Strap
