Clinical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Technologist

Client: VA Togus Maine Healthcare System
Location: 1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330
Contract Type: Firm Fixed Price (FFP)
Duration: 1-Year Base + 4 Option Years
Openings: 5 FTEs
Submission Deadline: July 3, 2026, 4:00 PM EST
Questions Due: June 19, 2026, 4:00 PM EST

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant science field
  • Completion of an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) / Medical Technology (MT) program or equivalent

Licensure & Certifications:

  • Active Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) certification (required)
  • Active BLS/ACLS
  • Any U.S. state laboratory license accepted

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience in:
    • Chemistry
    • Hematology
    • Coagulation
    • Blood Bank
    • Urinalysis
    • Microbiology
  • Candidates qualifying through alternate education pathway require 5 years of experience
  • Prior VA experience preferred but not required

Shift Information

  • Day, Evening, and Night shifts
  • Weekends: Approximately 1–2 per month (may vary)
  • No On-Call Requirement
  • Onboarding/Credentialing: 6–8 weeks

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient testing and quality control across all laboratory departments
  • Report and document test results
  • Perform instrument maintenance and calibration
  • Troubleshoot testing issues
  • Ensure patient/sample identification accuracy
  • Participate in Quality Improvement meetings
  • Maintain compliance with VA policies and patient confidentiality requirements

Ideal Candidate:

A generalist MLS/CLS with strong experience in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, blood bank, urinalysis, and microbiology who is comfortable working independently across multiple laboratory departments in a hospital setting.

Must have BLS from AHA and ASCP/AMT certification
