Registered Nurse (RN) - Wound Care

Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Manage the facility wound care program, including standards of care and practice related to wound, ostomy, and continence patient care needs.
  • Provide direct patient care and assist staff nurses.
  • Act as a consultative service to affiliated healthcare agencies and facility staff.
  • Develop and implement wound care protocols, documentation tools, wound care formulary, and referral criteria.
  • Establish standards of care, competencies, policies, and procedures for quality, cost-effective wound care.
  • Serve as primary consultant to Wound Care Clinicians and advocate with physicians.
  • Train and support clinical staff to assess wounds, recommend protocols, and initiate care plans.
  • Provide ongoing education on wound care products.
  • Evaluate wounds upon admission and ongoing to determine treatment plans and identify problems early.
  • Consult on patients with pressure injuries and wounds not showing measurable healing within two weeks.
  • Assist primary nurses and physicians in developing comprehensive wound management and prevention plans.
  • Recommend changes to wound care orders supported by evidence-based research.
  • Review medical records to ensure proper wound assessments, care plans, and treatments are documented and provided.
  • Investigate adverse wound-related events through root cause analysis and develop action plans with nursing leadership.
  • Participate in clinical outcome monitoring, follow-up, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in CMS quality data reporting related to wound care.
  • Collaborate to maintain a cost-effective wound care formulary.
  • Assist with training new Wound Care Coordinators as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of 2 years of wound care experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Work Schedule

  • 8-hour shifts, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 5 days per week (40 hours/week).
