Must have: candidates without these skills will not be considered for the role.
- Minimum 1-year acute care hospital Stepdown/PCU Experience
- BLS & ACLS
Preferred or nice to have: candidates with these skills will be considered first.
- Experience with Solid Organ Transplant (kidney, liver or pancreas). We do NOT give travelers fresh transplants, unless they want to take on competencies
- Experience with modalities of higher oxygen delivery/respiratory support (Vapotherm/Bipap/CPAP)
- Knowledge of Chest Tube management and care
- Experience/knowledge of Tracheostomy management and care
- Experience with NG/Dobhoff placement and management
- Experience in management of DKA patient’s and insulin drips
- Strong critical thinking skills: identifying decompensating patients (ie: sepsis)
List typical procedures performed on unit(s):
- Wound/drain care (large surgical population)
- Frequent lab draws from Central Lines
- Transfusing blood products
- Use of two point soft physical restraints
- Use of NICOM (form of non-invasive cardiac monitoring)
- CBI (Continuous Bladder Irrigation)
- Plasmapheresis (partner with the HD/infusion nurse, done on the unit)
- Experience caring for patients with Heparin gtts, PCA’s, Epidurals, Cardiac Arrhythmias, management of anti-arrhythmic drips (any drip that isn't a titratable pressor), central line care/use, Reading telemetry strips, Strong Infection Prevention knowledge for immunocompromised patient population, comfortable with transfusing blood products
About the unit(s):
- Number of Beds – 34 (department is physically split between 2 floors, 5th and 6th)
- Number of Staff – ~45
- Type of staff: **Depends on patient census**
- Day Shift – Charge RN without patient assignment; staff nurses; PCTs
- Night Shift – same as above- no changes in ratios
- Patient Ratios – 1:4-5 (We occasionally flex to 1:6 if we have Med/Surg overflow)
- Traveler will be required to manage patio ratios of 1:5 or 1:6
- Type of equipment – bladder scanner on each floor, Mobilabs for lab specimen labeling in each room, EKG machine, AccuVein, Virtual Sitter Cameras, W.O.Ws, Hoyer Lift, Sara Steady Lift, Sit to Stand Lift, Cortrak Machine to place Dobhoff tubes (core staff have competency), Ultrasound Guided PIV Machine
- EMR - Meditech
• 36 guaranteed hours a week and RTO upon request
