LDRP Registered Nurse – Unit Overview
This Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit follows a rotating schedule that includes both day and night shifts, as well as weekday and weekend rotations.
The department averages approximately 25–33 births each month and features 10 patient rooms, including 6 birthing suites and 4 postpartum/surgical rooms. The medical team consists of 3 OB/GYN physicians and 4 Family Practice physicians who perform deliveries. A Lactation Consultant is available on-site three days per week to support new mothers and infants.
Staffing is designed to provide individualized patient care. Labor patients are assigned a dedicated nurse, while postpartum assignments are typically 1 nurse for up to 2 mother-baby couplets, with occasional assignments of up to 3 couplets based on unit needs.
The facility manages primarily low-risk obstetric patients. High-risk pregnancies and deliveries are generally transferred to a higher-acuity center when appropriate. For cesarean deliveries, nursing staff do not circulate in the operating room; responsibilities are focused on newborn care and assistance with the infant following
