Travel Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (ER) | Variable Shift
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ER RN) for a travel assignment at UCSF Medical Center – Parnassus Campus. This is a high-acuity, quaternary care environment providing advanced emergency care for complex medical, cardiac, neurological, and psychiatric conditions.
Assignment Details
- Shift: 12-Hour Variable (Days/Nights)
- Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Block Scheduling: Not Available
- Weekend Requirement: As assigned
- Floating: Required across UCSF facilities
- On-Call: Not Required
- Travel Experience: Required (previous travel assignment mandatory)
Minimum Qualifications (FIRM REQUIREMENTS)
- Active California RN License
- BSN Required
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Ability to float to other UCSF facilities
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- PALS
Preferred Qualifications
- Level I Trauma Center experience
- Continuous IV sedation experience
- Triage experience
- CPI certification

Patient Population
Care is provided to adult and pediatric patients with:
- Stroke and neurological emergencies
- STEMI and cardiac arrest
- Respiratory failure
- Severe trauma cases
- Psychiatric emergencies
- Complex multi-system conditions
Required Clinical Skills
Emergency & Critical Care
- Triage
- Management of multisystem organ failure patients
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
Respiratory Care
- Care of ventilated patients
IV Therapy & Sedation
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Phlebotomy
- Continuous IV sedation (preferred)
- Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
Neurological & Cardiac Emergencies
- Stroke (CVA) management
- STEMI response support
- Critical cardiac event management
Specialized Care Requirements
- Management of LVAD patients
- Care of patients on prostacyclin therapy for pulmonary hypertension
Equipment Available
- Fluid Warmer
- Arctic Sun Cooling System
- Belmont Rapid Infuser
Interdisciplinary Support
(As part of a major academic medical center, full multidisciplinary support is available for complex emergency care needs.)
Important Notes
- Must be able to float across UCSF facilities as required
- Must have prior travel assignment experience (firm requirement)
- Strong experience in high-acuity and Level I Trauma environments strongly preferred
