Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bedford, Indiana
Contract Length: 12 weeks

Job Details

• Work setting: General Emergency Department (combined adult and pediatric patients)
• Unit size: 15-bed emergency unit / critical access hospital
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 - 6:30)
• Locals are not accepted for this position

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Indiana
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Clinical Skills & Competencies

• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• IV therapy and phlebotomy: blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, starting IVs
• Medication administration: continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors, procedural sedation
• Neurological/psychiatric care: management of cerebrovascular accidents (CVA)
• Professional skills: isolation precautions, triage

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Background checks within 90 days of start, including:

  • 7-year residential/work history verification
  • SSN trace, county and statewide criminal checks
  • National sex offender registry
  • FACIS Level III
  • Education verification (official transcript or diploma)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Education verification by third party (may be pending at start)
• Physical exam completed within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (no instant tests accepted)
• Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
• Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter
• Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years (must be from charge nurse, manager, supervisor, or higher)
• Current employment application with 7-year work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days

Additional Notes

• Unit competency exam and medication/pharmacology competency exam required
• Facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements must be completed prior to start
• On-site fit testing available only as a last resort and requires prior approval
• Prior travel experience is not required for this position
