Description
Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)
Location: Bedford, Indiana
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Work setting: General Emergency Department (combined adult and pediatric patients)
- Unit size: 15-bed emergency unit / critical access hospital
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 - 6:30)
- Locals are not accepted for this position
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Clinical Skills & Competencies
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- IV therapy and phlebotomy: blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, starting IVs
- Medication administration: continuous IV sedation, IV vasopressors, procedural sedation
- Neurological/psychiatric care: management of cerebrovascular accidents (CVA)
- Professional skills: isolation precautions, triage
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks within 90 days of start, including:
- 7-year residential/work history verification
- SSN trace, county and statewide criminal checks
- National sex offender registry
- FACIS Level III
- Education verification (official transcript or diploma)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification by third party (may be pending at start)
- Physical exam completed within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (no instant tests accepted)
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years (must be from charge nurse, manager, supervisor, or higher)
- Current employment application with 7-year work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
Additional Notes
- Unit competency exam and medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements must be completed prior to start
- On-site fit testing available only as a last resort and requires prior approval
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position
This position offers a focused emergency nursing role in a critical access hospital setting with a night shift schedule and requires strong emergency nursing skills and certifications.
