Travel Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) – Blood Bank & Clinical Laboratory | Nights
 

Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights (11:00 PM – 11:30 AM)
Schedule: 3x12-Hour Shifts
Weekend Requirement: Yes
Call Requirement: None
Float Requirement: Within Department as Needed
EMR: Epic
 

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) with strong Blood Bank expertise to join a hospital-based clinical laboratory team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in transfusion services, laboratory testing, quality control procedures, and specimen analysis while delivering accurate and timely diagnostic results to support patient care.

Medical laboratory professionals perform microscopic, bacteriological, hematological, immunologic, and chemical diagnostic testing on blood, urine, tissue, body fluids, and other patient specimens. This position requires extensive Blood Bank experience and the ability to work independently during overnight shifts.
 

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, STAT, and specialized laboratory testing across multiple disciplines.
  • Conduct Blood Bank testing and transfusion service procedures including:
    • ABO/Rh typing
    • Antibody screening and identification
    • Crossmatching
    • Antigen typing
    • Direct and Indirect Coombs testing
    • Blood irradiation
    • Blood product splitting
    • Plasma reduction on plateletpheresis products
  • Analyze and interpret laboratory results accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and instrumentation.
  • Process, accession, prepare, and transport patient specimens.
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Document testing and patient information using Epic EMR.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and healthcare providers to ensure quality patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Louisiana (LA) Laboratory License required at time of submission.
  • ASCP certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist experience.
  • Epic EMR experience required.
  • Strong Blood Bank and Transfusion Services experience required.
  • Ability to work independently during night shifts.

    • Blood irradiation procedures
    • Platelet product modifications
    • Advanced immunohematology testing
    • Hospital-based clinical laboratories
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Additional Information

  • Louisiana license must be active and in hand at the time of submission.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted).
  • Flu vaccination required (no exemptions).
  • Travelers may float within the department based on staffing needs.
  • At least two recent manager references required.
  • Travelers may only be submitted to one campus at a time.

This assignment is ideal for a highly skilled Medical Technologist with advanced Blood Bank experience who is comfortable working independently on overnight shifts in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.
