JOB TITLE: Lead Pharmacist / Pharmacy Operations Lead
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Pharmacist is responsible for overseeing daily pharmacy operations and providing leadership to pharmacy technicians and support staff while ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant medication management services. This role requires a clinically competent pharmacist with hospital pharmacy experience who can supervise operational workflows, support quality improvement initiatives, and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams. The position requires flexibility to work varying schedules, including 8-hour or 10-hour shifts, based on departmental needs. Local candidates are strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Direct and oversee daily pharmacy operations to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with professional, regulatory, and governmental standards.
• Lead and supervise pharmacy technicians and support personnel, ensuring efficient workflow and operational excellence.
• Coordinate daily staffing assignments and monitor productivity to maintain optimal pharmacy services.
• Develop and monitor operational and quality performance metrics and implement process improvement initiatives.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental policies, procedures, and service standards.
• Ensure compliance with medication safety standards, controlled substance regulations, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies.
• Oversee computerized pharmacy information systems and dispensing technologies to ensure data accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Manage purchasing and inventory functions to ensure cost-effective medication utilization and timely availability of pharmaceutical products.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback to pharmacy staff to promote professional growth and accountability.
• Facilitate staff orientation, training, and continuing education activities.
• Prepare operational reports, identify areas of concern, and recommend process improvements and corrective actions.
• Participate in quality assurance, patient safety, and departmental performance improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize medication therapy and patient outcomes.
• Participate in departmental and hospital educational activities and maintain competency in current pharmacy practices.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor of Science (BS) in Pharmacy and/or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
• PharmD preferred.
• Completion of a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of pharmacist experience required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Previous experience leading pharmacy technicians or serving in an operations leadership role preferred.
• Strong knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, medication management, and regulatory requirements.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
• Current and active, unrestricted Pharmacist license required.
• Arizona Pharmacist license preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 to 90 days of hire, based on facility requirements.
• Licensed to administer immunizations, vaccines, and emergency medications preferred.

• Knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations and medication safety practices.
• Experience with pharmacy information systems and automated dispensing technologies.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and commitment to quality patient care.
SCHEDULE:
• Flexible scheduling with 8-hour or 10-hour shifts.
• Days and hours may vary based on operational needs.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
• Local candidates are strongly preferred.
