Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg/Telemetry | Nights | Chesapeake, VA
 

Location: Chesapeake, VA
Unit: 5 East – Oncology / Med Surg / Telemetry & Vascular Access
Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 Weeks (Extension Possible)
 

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) for a Med Surg/Telemetry assignment in Chesapeake, Virginia. This position offers the opportunity to work in a supportive acute care environment while enjoying everything Coastal Virginia has to offer, including easy access to Virginia Beach and Norfolk.
 

Schedule

  • 3x12-hour Night Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • 13-week contract with possible extension
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required during contract
  • Float as needed
  • 3x12 or 4x12 schedule available (Overtime paid after 48 hours for 4x12 schedule)
  • No blocked scheduling requests

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric Med Surg/Telemetry patients
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms
  • Perform IV starts and maintain IV therapy
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver quality patient care
  • Document patient care accurately using Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active Virginia RN License or Compact RN License (required at submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med Surg/Telemetry experience
  • Previous travel nursing experience preferred
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
  • Epic EMR proficiency (required)
  • Strong telemetry interpretation skills
  • Experience with IV starts and dysrhythmia management
  • Ability to successfully complete an EKG/Telemetry competency exam (80% passing score)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS
  • Color Vision Test
  • Core Mandatory Training (Parts I, II & III)
  • Med Surg/Telemetry Skills
  • RN Pharmacology Assessment

Unit Information

  • Patient Ratio: 1:7
  • Adult & Geriatric patient population
  • Average Daily Census: 28 patients
  • Interdisciplinary support includes IV Team, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Phlebotomy, Social Services, Rapid Response Team, and Transportation

  • Permanent residence must be 50+ miles from the facility
  • Current address must be included with submission
  • No license or background violations accepted
  • Fit testing must be completed (PAPR cannot be accommodated)
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with the application
  • Current Nursys report and required cover sheet must accompany submission

Additional Information

  • COVID-19 vaccination not required
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions and declinations accepted)
  • 24 hours of orientation
  • 3 hours of paid pre-start modules
