Description
Emergency Department (ED) RN – Travel Contract
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a high-volume Level I Trauma Center. This position requires recent Level I Trauma experience, strong emergency nursing skills, and the ability to work across multiple affiliated facilities when needed.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience
- At least 6 months of Level I Trauma experience (required)
- Experience with high-acuity emergency patients
- Comfortable interpreting telemetry strips
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
Preferred Certifications
- TNCC
- ATCN
ENPC cannot be substituted for PALS.
Unit Details
- Acute ED: 36 beds
- Subacute ED: 54 beds
- Trauma Bays: 6 (travelers are not assigned)
- Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Annual Volume: Approximately 88,000 visits
- Average Daily Census: 250–300 patients
- Common Patient Population:
- Adult emergency patients
- Trauma
- Burns
- Chest pain
- Psychiatric holds
- Pediatric patients stabilized before transfer
EMR & Equipment
- EMR: Cerner
- Telemetry: Phillips (must independently read rhythm strips)
- Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
- Pharmacy: 24/7 with dedicated ED pharmacist coverage
- IV/Ultrasound Team available
Floating
Traveler may float between:
- St. Joseph's Main Campus
- St. Joseph's Westgate
- Free Standing ED – Litchfield Park
- Free Standing ED – Glendale
Facilities are approximately 30 minutes apart, and travelers may be floated mid-shift if needed.
Travel pairs must have separate transportation.
Scheduling
- Shift: Per job posting
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per month (based on unit needs)
- Floor Orientation: 2–3 shifts
Important Compliance Requirements
- 50-mile radius rule (Driver's License is the source of truth and must be included with submission)
- No local rate available
- Candidate must successfully pass the DYS clinical exam prior to offer
- Two attempts allowed
- Failure results in a 6-month Do Not Use (DNU) status for applicable facilities
- SIMs Lab (Pass/Fail) during orientation
- Foley catheter insertion
- Central line dressing change while maintaining sterile technique
- Failure may result in contract termination
- Additional education includes lifts, restraints, and wound care
Appearance Requirements
- Natural hair color only
- No facial piercings
- Male clinicians must be clean-shaven for N95 fit testing
