JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
FACILITY: W. W. Hastings Hospital
CONTRACT DETAILS:
• Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
• Shift: 3x12 Nights
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU is responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to adult and pediatric patients with acute and complex medical conditions. The RN utilizes critical thinking and evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
UNIT INFORMATION:
• Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• Number of Beds: 25
• Patient Population: Adult and Pediatric patients with a wide variety of acute illnesses and medical conditions
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5–6
• EMR System: Cerner
• Automated Medication Dispensing System: Pyxis
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized plans of care for critically ill adult and pediatric patients.
• Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatments and interventions.
• Administer medications and treatments safely using the Pyxis medication dispensing system and according to provider orders and facility policies.
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and medical emergencies.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and deliver high-quality patient care.
• Utilize Cerner EMR for accurate, timely, and comprehensive documentation.
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control guidelines, including wearing a mask at all times while working in the ICU.
• Maintain patient safety standards and participate in quality improvement and patient care initiatives.
• Participate in shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and departmental education programs.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program.
• Minimum of three (3) years of recent ICU or acute care nursing experience required.
• Recent pediatric nursing experience is required.
• Experience caring for critically ill adult and pediatric patients in an acute care setting preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
• Current, unrestricted Oklahoma Registered Nurse (RN) license or active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) license required.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Strong critical care nursing and patient assessment skills.
• Knowledge of adult and pediatric critical care practices and emergency interventions.
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing systems preferred.
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple critically ill patients in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and clinical decision-making abilities.
