Description
Unit PACU # Beds - 20 Pre-op bays and 24 PACU/Phase II bays. Phase 1 and Phase 2? - All staff rotate throughout Pre-op, PACU, Phase II, and boarders. Nurse:Patient Ratios: - Pre-op ratio is 1:3; PACU ratio is 1:2; Phase II ratio is 1:3. Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS. Common Cases: Adult and Pediatrics - General surgery, plastics, Dental/ENT/Maxillofacial, Urology, Neuro Surg, Surgical Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic/Ortho Trauma, Joint replacements, OB/GYN, Thoracic, Regional Acute Pain/Blocks/Epidurals/Etc. Bariatrics. Experience or 'Must have' skills: Prior PACU experience - level 1 trauma PACU preferred. EMR: EPIC. Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? - Charge nurses do not typically take assignments but can when necessary. Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios - Yes. Typically, there are 5 PCAs in pre-op, 2 in PACU, and 2 in Phase II. RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc) - Experience is required. ICU patients - do they recover in PACU? - Yes, unless there is a ready ICU bed. This is fully dependent on throughput and capacity, so experience is required. RNs read strips? - Yes.
