Job Description:
We are seeking an elite, resilient Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel contract at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center Bergan Mercy in Omaha, NE. This is a high-volume, fast-paced Level I Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and State-Certified Pediatric ER. Facility Details & Unit Highlights:
- Facility: CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center Bergan Mercy
- Unit Layout: 20 Main ER beds, 5 Trauma Bays, 10 OBS beds, and a 6-bed Fast Track zone.
- Patient Ratios: Highly supportive structure ranging from 1:1 in Trauma/ICU up to 1:4–1:5 in standard zones and OBS.
- Support Staff: Strongly staffed with ED Physicians, Mid-Levels, dedicated Charge Nurses, and EMT/Paramedics/Aides.
- Security: Housed directly in the ER 24/7.
Key Responsibilities & Scope:
- Manage high-acuity emergency clinical caseloads including severe trauma activations, sepsis protocols, acute chest pain, respiratory distress, and stroke emergencies (tPA administration).
- Formulate rapid assessments, monitor advanced cardiac drips, and independently read and interpret telemetry strips.
- Maintain flexibility to float to the on-campus OBS unit or the regional Freestanding Creighton ER campus at least once a week.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2+ years of recent emergency nursing experience.
- Proven recent Level I or Level II Trauma Center experience is strictly required.
- Active Nebraska or Compact RN License in hand.
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC. (NRP is a plus!)
- Strict Radius & Affiliation Rule: Must reside 50+ miles away from the facility (Driver's License copy required at submittal). Cannot hold active employment (FT, PT, or PRN) anywhere within the CommonSpirit Health network.
- Onboarding Compliance: Must be prepared to complete 1 week of comprehensive orientation, pass an open-book clinical skills exam with a 90% or higher, and adhere strictly to a no-artificial-nails clinical hygiene policy.
