Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical (Med/Surg)

Location: Akron, Ohio
Facility: Akron Campus – H5 Medical/Surgical Unit
Contract Length: July 19, 2026 – October 17, 2026 (13 Weeks)
Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3x12s)
Openings: 3
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (Travel/Contract)

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Medical/Surgical Registered Nurses (RNs) to join a fast-paced 36-bed Med/Surg unit at Akron Campus. This unit provides comprehensive care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions. Candidates must be adaptable, clinically strong, and comfortable caring for diverse patient populations while maintaining high-quality patient outcomes.
 

Unit Highlights

The H5 Medical/Surgical unit specializes in caring for patients requiring hospitalization for:

  • General Surgery
  • Colorectal Surgery
  • General Abdominal Surgery
  • Mastectomy & Thyroidectomy
  • Urology & Uro-Gynecology
  • Women's Health & Gynecology
  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Plastic Surgery
  • ENT Surgery
  • Trauma
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Orthopedic & Spine/Neuro Overflow
  • Obstetrical Complications including:
    • Preeclampsia
    • Hyperemesis
    • Intrauterine Fetal Demise (IUFD)
    • Substance Abuse Withdrawal During Pregnancy
    • Diabetic Pregnancies

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5–6

This is a high-acuity, fast-paced environment where nurses must be comfortable managing changing patient assignments throughout their shift.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to medical and surgical patients.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing monitoring.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care plans.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the Epic electronic medical record.
  • Float to other appropriate units as required.
  • Respond efficiently in a dynamic, high-volume clinical environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Medical/Surgical nursing experience.
  • Recent Epic EMR experience within the last 12 months (must be listed on resume).
  • Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program.
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA).
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to float to other units as needed.
