Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Pre-Op / PACU | Outpatient Surgery
 

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Pre-Op / Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Specialty: Pre-Operative & Post Anesthesia Care
Contract Length: 13 Weeks (91 Days)
Schedule: 4 x 10-Hour Day Shifts (40 Hours/Week)
Shift Times: Variable start times of 6:00 AM, 7:30 AM, or 8:00 AM
Start Date: Mid-September (Maternity Leave Coverage)
 

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel assignment at a modern outpatient surgery center. This position requires flexibility to work across both the Pre-Operative Holding Area (POHA) and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), providing exceptional perioperative care to surgical patients before and after anesthesia.

The ideal candidate will have strong pre-operative experience, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery environment.
 

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the pre-operative and post-anesthesia recovery phases.
  • Perform patient assessments, preparation, education, and discharge planning.
  • Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
  • Maintain airway management, pain control, and postoperative monitoring.
  • Assist with pre-operative procedures and preparation for surgery.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, CRNAs, and the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Document patient care accurately using Epic EMR.
  • Float between Pre-Op and PACU as needed and assist at nearby campuses when required.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Current BLS (AHA)
  • Current ACLS (AHA)
  • Current PALS (AHA)
  • Minimum 1 year of Pre-Op nursing experience in an outpatient or inpatient setting
  • Experience caring for surgical patients in a perioperative environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous PACU experience
  • Experience assisting with nerve blocks and spinal procedures (training available)
  • Epic EMR experience
  • Strong critical thinking and patient assessment skills

Unit Information

  • 26 Pre-Op Bays
  • 20 PACU Bays
  • 6 Operating Rooms
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1–2
  • Charge Nurse assigned over both Pre-Op and PACU
  • Support from CNAs for patient preparation, vital signs, blood draws, room setup, and patient transport

Schedule & Floating

  • Four 10-hour day shifts each week
  • Variable start times (6:00 AM, 7:30 AM, or 8:00 AM)
  • One random weekday off each week
  • No guaranteed block scheduling
  • No weekend requirements
  • No holiday requirements
  • Minimal to no call
  • Travelers may float to PACU or nearby campuses (Nampa, Meridian, or Boise) as needed

Dress Code

  • Scrubs may be any color
  • No artificial nails
  • Long-sleeve shirts under scrub tops are permitted
  • Jackets are not permitted in clinical areas

Orientation

  • Two days of general orientation
  • Epic training available (may test out if experienced)
  • One to three days of unit orientation with a preceptor
