Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room (OR) 

Job Description


We are seeking a skilled Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room (OR) to join our surgical team on a 13-week travel assignment. The OR RN is responsible for providing comprehensive perioperative nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures. The ideal candidate has strong experience in circulating duties, excellent critical thinking skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced surgical environment while ensuring patient safety and maintaining sterile technique.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care throughout the perioperative process.
  • Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for scheduled procedures.
  • Perform circulating nurse duties during a wide variety of surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a sterile environment and ensure strict adherence to infection prevention protocols.
  • Verify patient identity, surgical site, consent forms, and procedure details according to hospital policy.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, efficient surgical care.
  • Monitor patients throughout surgery and promptly recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.
  • Accurately document perioperative care in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and other treatments as ordered.
  • Assist with patient positioning and ensure proper padding and safety measures are maintained.
  • Perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts according to established protocols.
  • Ensure all surgical equipment is functioning properly and report any malfunctions.
  • Provide post-operative handoff communication to the PACU or receiving unit.
  • Participate in emergency surgical procedures and trauma cases as needed.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
