Description

RN – Med/Surg

Shift: 12-hour Days/Nights (0645-1915 or 1845-0715)

Facility Requirements

BLS required
NIHSS required
ACLS is a plus
EMR: Sunrise

Unit Overview

52 private beds
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6–7 (typically 1:7)
Charge nurse carries a full assignment
4–6 CNAs per shift (approx. 1:10–12)

Patient Population

General Med/Surg
Orthopedic post-op
Neuro post-op (laminectomy, discectomy, spinal fusion)
General surgery
COPD
Pneumonia
Cellulitis
Chest pain
Hemodialysis patients
Peritoneal dialysis experience is highly preferred

Required Skills

Strong Med/Surg experience
Comfortable with:
- Heparin drips
- PCA pumps
- Post-op orthopedic and neuro patients
- Medical diagnoses
Experience with telemetry preferred (monitor tech reads strips)

Equipment/Support

EMR: Sunrise
IV Team and PICC Team available 24/7
RT available 24/7
Pharmacy/Pyxis available 24/7
Uses BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow Oxygen

Scheduling

Every other weekend
- Days: Saturday/Sunday
- Nights: Friday/Saturday
Holiday rotation required
Floating to other Med/Surg or Oncology units (may float to IMC for Med/Surg overflow only)
No block scheduling

Orientation

Hospital orientation
2 full unit orientation shifts
