Registered Nurse (ER) - Iron Mountain, Michigan

Job Details

• Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)

Unit Information

• Trauma Level IV
• No stroke or STEMI receiving (patients are sent out)
• 14 beds with 2 trauma bays
• Fast Track area with 3 designated rooms
• Separate triage area with 2 rooms; travelers may triage after policy review
• Holding areas intermixed within ER and attached Acute Care Unit (ACU) rooms for overflow
• Psych/seclusion rooms available; any room can be converted as needed
• No 24/7 in-house security; security coverage by maintenance, local police, and internal code backup
• Average patient volume: 40-60 patients per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3-4 during day; fewer nurses at night (2 RNs after 3 am until 7 am)
• Common patient types: traumas, STEMI, strokes, motor vehicle accidents, farming injuries, hunting injuries

Staffing & Support

• ED Physicians and Mid-Levels available 24/7 in-house
• Charge nurse takes patient assignments, typically during day shifts
• Support staff includes CNAs, medics, and LPNs who float for tasks; no dedicated ER team
• Respiratory Therapists available 24/7 providing ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKG assistance
• No monitor techs; RNs read their own telemetry strips
• X-Ray and CT available 24/7 nearby
• Phlebotomy services available 24/7; RNs do not draw labs

Scheduling & Requirements

• Shifts: 7, 10, 12, 3, 7 (12-hour shifts)
• Schedule created by manager; attempts made to avoid alternating 1 on/1 off shifts
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holiday requirement: approximately 2 out of 3 holidays during winter; usually every other holiday during contract
• No mandatory call or standby; volunteers may go home without pay
• Floating to inpatient units may be required for assistance
• Dress code: any solid color, clean and professional attire

Orientation & Policies

• Computer-based training plus 2 days of floor orientation (including policy review)
• Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Previous employment with this facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Michigan
• ED - Emergency Department (2 years of experience)
• ED - Emergency Department experience within the last year
• ACLS
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• PALS
• TNCC
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
