Description

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse – 12-Hour Nights

  • Schedule: 12-Hour Nights | 19:00 - 07:00 | 36 Hours Guaranteed (3x12s)
  • Assignment Length: 13-Week Contract (Start Date: 08/03/2026)
  • Scheduling Logistics: Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required. Holidays are worked in coordination with permanent staff schedules.
  • Orientation Structure: 12 non-billable orientation hours. Includes 2–3 unit-specific orientation shifts.
  • Floating Protocol: Travelers float first. Staff must be willing to float to Labor & Delivery (L&D) or Postpartum to care for transitioning newborns or healthy babies.
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs (not provided by the facility).
  • Cancellation Policy: The facility reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.

Submission Hardstops [STRICT & NON-NEGOTIABLE]

  • Experience Baseline [HARDSTOP]: Minimum 2 to 3 years of dedicated NICU experience is required. Prior travel nurse experience is highly preferred.
  • Acuity Competency [HARDSTOP]: Candidates must have proven Level 3 NICU experience managing high-acuity neonates.
  • Licensure & Documentation: Active RN license for the state of practice must be fully verified on Nursys at the time of submission.
  • Required Certifications & Health Mandates [IN-HAND]:
    • Active NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
    • Active BLS Certification (AHA preferred).
    • Documented COVID Vaccine Certification is strictly required.
  • Clinical Assets [PREFERRED]: Spanish-speaking language proficiency; strong experience attending high-risk deliveries for immediate resuscitation; direct experience managing therapeutic hypothermia (infant cooling protocols).

 

Unit Profile & Clinical Scope Unit Footprint: A high-acuity 16-bed Level 3b NICU (expanding to 20 beds). The unit manages all gestational ages, taking care of extreme preemies, neonatal sepsis, cooling cases, and substance abuse/withdrawal syndromes. Surgical cases are stabilized and transferred out. No ECMO on site. Ratios & Care Dynamics: Ratios run 1:1 for critical micro-preemies/critical drips up to 1:3 for stable feeder/growers. Support Framework: 24/7 designated Respiratory Therapy (RT) support and 24/7 Pharmacy coverage. Neonatologists are on-call (2 full-time, 1 part-time). No dedicated IV Team and no Nurse Aides/PCTs are utilized on this unit. Respiratory & Drip Management: RNs manage complex neonatal drips across all pharmacological classes. Ventilation equipment includes Aveya ventilators, bubble CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-frequency oscillators. Monitoring: Centralized Philips monitoring systems are utilized. Bedside RNs are responsible for constant telemetry observation (no dedicated monitor techs on staff; strip interpretation logging is not required).
