Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room (Oncology)
Location:Omaha, NE
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Day | 4x10 Hours (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
On-Call Requirement: 1–2 weeknight call shifts per week on average and weekend call approximately every 4–5 weeks. Occasional off-shift rotation may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care for oncology and general surgery patients throughout the surgical process.
- Circulate complex surgical procedures including oncology, general surgery, ENT, thoracic, and plastic surgery cases.
- Perform pre-operative assessments, intraoperative monitoring, and post-anesthesia patient care.
- Maintain a sterile surgical environment while adhering to infection prevention and patient safety standards.
- Prepare and manage surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for a wide range of procedures.
- Assist surgeons and anesthesia providers during complex surgical interventions.
- Monitor patient status, administer medications, blood products, and respond to intraoperative emergencies.
- Perform specimen collection, labeling, and accurate documentation using Epic EMR.
- Float within assigned surgical service lines based on departmental needs.
- Participate in scheduled weekday, weekend, and holiday on-call rotations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience.
- Mandatory Oncology Surgery experience (Hard Stop).
- Strong General Surgery experience with the ability to circulate multiple surgical specialties.
- Experience with complex oncology procedures including Whipple, Esophagectomy, Exploratory Laparotomy, Bowel Resection, Thyroidectomy, Parathyroidectomy, Neck Dissection, Mastectomy, Lumpectomy, Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy, Breast Reconstruction, Free Flaps, and Melanoma Excision.
- Level II Trauma experience required; Level I Trauma experience strongly preferred.
- Previous travel nursing experience required (first-time travelers not accepted).
- Experience with Epic EMR required.
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
- Experience with Da Vinci robotic surgery, Orthopedic, Neuro, and additional Oncology procedures is highly preferred.
- Ability to float between surgical service lines and participate in on-call rotations.
- Strong critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and perioperative patient care skills.
