Position Summary
The Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and indirect patient care in an outpatient clinic setting. The RN assesses patient needs, coordinates care, administers treatments and medications, educates patients and families, and collaborates with providers and healthcare team members to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Assess patients' physical, emotional, and educational needs.
- Obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, and clinical information.
- Triage patient concerns and determine appropriate interventions.
- Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments as prescribed.
- Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
- Monitor patient responses to treatment and report changes in condition.
Care Coordination
- Coordinate patient care plans with physicians, advanced practice providers, specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Facilitate referrals, follow-up appointments, and diagnostic testing.
- Review laboratory and diagnostic results and communicate findings as directed.
- Ensure continuity of care through accurate documentation and communication.
Patient Education
- Provide education regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and preventive care.
- Instruct patients on self-care techniques and health maintenance strategies.
- Answer patient questions and address concerns within scope of practice.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Adhere to clinic policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate effectively with healthcare providers and support staff.
- Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and continuing education activities.
- Support clinic operations and workflow efficiency.
Qualifications
Required
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- One or more years of outpatient, ambulatory, primary care, or specialty clinic nursing experience.
- Advanced certifications relevant to specialty practice.
- Experience with quality improvement initiatives and care coordination.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing principles, clinical procedures, and infection control practices.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
- Strong patient education and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Ability to perform clinical procedures requiring manual dexterity.
- Ability to use computers and medical equipment for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Outpatient clinic or ambulatory care setting.
- Regular interaction with patients, families, providers, and healthcare staff.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids requiring appropriate safety precautions.
