Pediatric ICU Nurse - Austin, Texas
Job Details
- Specialty: RN PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
- Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Work Environment:
- High acuity, fast-paced 24-bed PICU
- Level 1 Trauma Center
- Patient populations include neurology, renal, pulmonary, surgical, and medical ICU cases
- Floating to CVICU and NICU as needed
- Navy scrubs and pediatric print tops allowed
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current Driver's License
Onboarding and Compliance Requirements
- Professional documents:
- Resume/Profile
- Two professional references
- Signed assignment agreement (offer letter and confirmations)
- Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender, and EPLS within 90 days of start
- Employment verification for past 7 years
- Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
- Health and safety:
- Current immunizations and health screenings including:
- MMR (two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations)
- Varicella (two vaccines, immunity evidence, or history; no declinations)
- Tdap (valid within 10 years; no declinations)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (mask required if declined)
- 2-step PPD or IGRA testing with annual TB questionnaire
- Fit test for respiratory protection (preferred before start)
- Health statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
- Drug screening: 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
- Competency and skills:
- Specialty exam with minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years
- Core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics, updated every 3 years
- EKG exam with minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years
- Skills checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually
- Additional onboarding:
- Color vision test, updated every 3 years
- Nursing contract worker onboarding completed onsite
- Education attestation completed pre-hire
- Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules completed prior to clearance
Additional Notes
- Floating to other ICU areas (CVICU, NICU) may be required
- Facility requires navy scrubs or pediatric print tops
- Driver’s license or state ID must be current and address compliant with licensing requirements
This position is suited for experienced pediatric ICU nurses comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment with multiple specialty ICU exposures and comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
