Pediatric/Neonatal Critical Care Transport RN – Travel Assignment

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric/Neonatal Critical Care Transport Registered Nurse (RN) to join a specialized transport team responsible for the safe transfer of critically ill neonatal and pediatric patients requiring a higher level of care. This role focuses on ground transport and involves collaborating closely with respiratory therapists and advanced practice providers to provide advanced critical care throughout the transport process.

The RN will assess, stabilize, monitor, and manage patients during transport from referring hospitals, emergency departments, labor and delivery units, NICUs, and pediatric units. Candidates must be comfortable caring for high-acuity neonatal and pediatric populations and may be required to float to bedside assignments within NICU, PICU, or pediatric units as needed.

Schedule

  • Night Shift: 3x12s (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • No call requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide critical care nursing during neonatal and pediatric ground transports.
  • Collaborate with transport team members, including respiratory therapists and advanced practice providers.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and interventions during transport.
  • Manage ventilated patients and advanced airway support.
  • Administer medications and continuous infusions, including vasopressors and sedatives.
  • Monitor and manage arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, and other critical care devices.
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms, arterial blood gases, and patient responses to treatment.
  • Ensure safe patient stabilization and transfer between facilities.
  • Float to NICU, PICU, and pediatric units when needed to support patient care operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric and/or neonatal critical care experience
  • Previous ground transport experience required
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
  • Strong critical thinking and emergency response skills
  • Charge nurse experience preferred

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Required Clinical Skills

  • Neonatal and pediatric critical care
