Description
Job Description: RN Oncology – Hemo
Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to adult patients with hematology and oncology-related conditions ranging from routine to complex. The RN is responsible for delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care while collaborating with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families to support optimal clinical outcomes.
Essential Responsibilities
Provides comprehensive nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
Assumes responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
Monitors patient conditions, collects and evaluates physiological data, and recognizes changes requiring intervention.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions, treatments, and changes in physician orders accurately and timely.
Administers medications, chemotherapy/immunotherapy treatments, intravenous therapies, and blood products as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates, and monitors IV infusions while ensuring patient safety.
Assists physicians with patient examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
Educates patients and families regarding treatment plans, hospital procedures, discharge instructions, and ongoing care needs.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and promote positive outcomes.
Identifies patient care needs and communicates appropriate referrals to support services.
Delegates tasks appropriately to support staff while maintaining accountability for patient care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum of 1 year of recent nursing experience.
Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, techniques, and procedures.
Ability to assess patient needs, prioritize care, and apply appropriate nursing interventions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Ability to maintain accurate documentation and manage confidential patient information.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and remain detail-oriented.
Experience providing care to oncology/hematology patients preferred.
Education Requirements
Required Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from an accredited program.
Required Certifications & Licensure
Active RN license issued by the appropriate state board of nursing or a valid multistate compact RN license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Fundamentals of Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration certification through the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).
ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate.
Assignment Details
Specialty: Hematology/Oncology Nursing
Schedule: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts
Hours: 36 hours per week
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Additional Requirement: Stepdown experience and ONS/ONCC certification required.
