Description

RN – Birthing Unit (Labor & Delivery) | Roles & Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout the labor, delivery, immediate postpartum, and newborn care process.

Monitor maternal and fetal well-being, assess labor progression, and communicate changes to the healthcare team.

Provide continuous labor support and assist with vaginal deliveries.

Circulate during Cesarean sections (C-sections) and maintain a sterile surgical environment.

Perform fetal monitoring and interpret Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) tracings.

Assist with newborn stabilization and resuscitation when needed.

Provide postpartum care, patient education, and breastfeeding support.

Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatric providers, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe maternal and newborn outcomes.

Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with hospital policies.

Required Documents / Certifications

  • Active RN License
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NRP
  • Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (recent)
  • 2+ years of recent Labor & Delivery / Birthing Unit RN experience
  • Must have C-section circulating experience

Preferred Certifications

  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)
  • NCC Perinatal Certification (Maternal Newborn Nursing or Inpatient Obstetric Nursing)
  • First Latch (Breastfeeding Certification)
