Position Details
Position: Registered Nurse – Pediatric Float Pool
Facility: UVA Children’s
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48 hours/week
Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
Schedule: 4×12-hour shifts
Requirements
- 2+ years PICU experience – Required
- NICU experience – Required
- Must be comfortable caring for pediatric patients
- Previous PICU/NICU Float Pool experience considered
- Pediatric experience required
- Epic experience – Required
- Previous travel experience – Required
- BLS – Required
- NRP – Required
- ACLS – Required
- PALS – Required
- Dr. Brown’s Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate – Required
- Can submit while pending
- VA RN license required, but pending VA license accepted
- Must be in hand by Wednesday before start
Float Requirements
Traveler will float throughout:
- PICU
- NICU
- Pediatric ED
- Acute Pediatrics
- Occasionally L&D
- Mother/Baby
Travelers must follow UVA's float policy and float within their scope of practice.

- Acute Pediatrics

- Ventilator management
- BiPAP/CPAP
- High-flow nasal cannula
- IV vasopressors
- Arterial lines
- Central lines/PICC
- CVP/hemodynamic monitoring
- CRRT
- ECMO
- VAD/LVAD/RVAD
- Chest tubes
- ICP monitoring
- Congenital heart disease
- Post-cardiac surgery
- Post-cardiac catheterization
- Pediatric dosage calculations
- TPN/lipids
- Tracheostomy care
- Intubation assistance
- ABG interpretation
- Dysrhythmia management
Schedule
- Night Shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
- 4×12-hour shifts
- 36 or 48 hours/week
Submission / Compliance
- Nursys verification required
- Copies of all certifications required
- Professional references required
- Epic experience required
- RTO must be included at submission
- Pending VA license accepted, but must be active/in hand by the Wednesday before start
- Any license actions/hits require UVA leadership approval
- Previous UVA employment must be disclosed
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days
- Up to 16 hours of non-billable orientation modules
- Flu vaccine required; no exemptions
- COVID vaccine not required
Important Hard Stops
Do not submit unless the candidate has:
- 2+ years PICU experience
- NICU experience
- Pediatric experience
- Epic experience
- BLS, NRP, ACLS and PALS
- Willingness to float to PICU, NICU, Peds ED, Acute Peds and potentially L&D/Mother-Baby
- Willingness to work every other weekend and holiday
- Ability to obtain the Dr. Brown’s Infant-Driven Feeding Certificate
- Travel experience
- VA license or pending VA license that can be active by the required deadline.
