Description

Job Details

  • Shift: 12-hour Days (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
  • Weekend Requirement: Based on unit needs (high need for Sundays)
  • Floating: Required
  • Care Setting: Acute Care
  • Division: Nursing

Licensure & Requirements

  • Washington RN License or Compact License required
  • Driver's License required at submission
  • Auto-offer based on prescreen recommendation

     

Unit Information

  • Unit: Medical ICU / PCU Float
  • Beds: 24
  • Patient Ratios:
    • ICU: 1:1 or 1:2
    • PCU: 1:3–4

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS

Preferred Certifications

  • CRRN
  • PCCN

Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years ICU experience

Preferred Skills

  • Swan-Ganz catheter management
  • Prismaflex CRRT
  • IABP
  • Arctic Sun therapy
  • Titration of ICU drips

Common Patient Population

  • Sepsis
  • COPD
  • COVID-19
  • Pneumonia
  • CRRT patients
  • Post-cardiac arrest (Arctic Sun)
  • Cath lab overflow
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Post-interventional cath patients
  • Impella patients
  • Swan-Ganz catheter patients
  • IABP patients

Common Drips

  • Sedation
  • Vasoactive medications
  • Paralytics
  • All standard ICU titratable drips

Support Staff

  • Charge nurse (no patient assignment)
  • Resource nurse (may carry patients)
  • CNA ratio:
    • Days: 1:8
    • Nights: 1:10
    • May be assigned as 1:1 sitter

Hospital Support

  • Intensivist/Hospitalist: In-house 24/7
  • Pharmacist:
    • Dedicated ICU pharmacist until 11 PM
    • House pharmacy overnight
  • Respiratory Therapy: Dedicated ICU RT 24/7
  • Equipment:
    • Ventilators
    • CPAP
    • BiPAP

Telemetry

  • Off-site central monitoring
  • ICU nurses monitor rhythms and interpret their own strips

Scheduling

  • Self-scheduling every 6 weeks
  • Initial schedule fills staffing gaps
  • Holidays rotate with permanent staff
  • No call or standby requirement

Floating

  • 4th, 5th, and 6th floors
  • ED Holds
  • Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units (to avoid cancellation)

Charting

  • EMR: Epic
  • Epic experience preferred
  • Can test out of Epic if used within the past year
  • Orientation includes:
    • 8-hour Epic class (Tacoma)
    • 8-hour onboarding/education day
    • 1 precepted shift

Dress Code

  • Any professional-colored scrubs
