Description

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Sleep Lab Manager and interpreting neurologist.
  • Performs routine and ambulatory EEG studies for adult and pediatric patients.
  • Conducts EEG procedures accurately, safely and efficiently.
  • Completes patient assessments and verifies clinical information before testing.
  • Educates patients and families regarding EEG procedures and expectations.
  • Ensures proper electrode placement and high-quality data acquisition.
  • Monitors patients throughout testing and maintains a safe, comfortable environment.
  • Identifies and corrects technical artifacts that may affect study quality.
  • Maintains, cleans and troubleshoots EEG equipment.
  • Follows infection-control and patient-safety procedures.
  • Participates in departmental quality-assurance activities.
  • Documents procedures, observations and relevant patient information accurately.
  • Prepares concise preliminary reports for the interpreting neurologist.
  • Processes completed study reports and ensures timely distribution.
  • Completes accurate billing and charge documentation.
  • Protects patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Collaborates with neurologists, nurses, physicians and other clinical staff.

Requirements

  • Current certification through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists.
  • Demonstrated competency in performing routine and ambulatory EEG studies.
  • Experience working with adult and pediatric patients.
  • Knowledge of electrode placement, EEG equipment and technical artifact correction.
  • Understanding of infection-control, equipment-cleaning and patient-safety standards.
  • Ability to complete accurate clinical documentation and preliminary reports.
  • Knowledge of billing, charge entry and report-processing procedures.
  • Strong communication, patient-education and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple testing responsibilities efficiently.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional credentials and continuing competency.
