Description
Specialty: Maternal Child Health / Postpartum RN
Shift: Nights 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM | 12-hour shifts
Job Description:
The Maternal Child Health RN provides direct nursing care to mothers and newborns in the postpartum setting. The RN assesses patients and families, develops and implements individualized care plans, monitors for complications, and provides education and support throughout the postpartum period.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to postpartum mothers and newborns
- Independently care for mother/baby couplets
- Assess physical, emotional, developmental, and behavioral needs
- Monitor maternal and newborn status and recognize abnormal findings
- Develop and implement individualized care plans
- Prioritize patient care and respond to unexpected clinical needs
- Provide postpartum assessments and interventions
- Educate mothers and families on newborn care and postpartum recovery
- Coordinate care with physicians and other interdisciplinary teams
- Document patient care accurately
- Serve as a resource and support to other nursing staff
Requirements:
- Postpartum experience required
- Must be able to independently care for mother/baby couplets
- Strong maternal-child nursing experience
- Ability to recognize normal vs. abnormal maternal and newborn conditions
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Maternal Child Health team
Unit Details:
- Unit: Cayuga Birthplace / Maternal Child Health
- 6 Labor & Delivery rooms
- 2 Labor Triage rooms
- 11 Postpartum rooms
- Level II NICU
- 4 single-family NICU rooms
- Cesarean Section OR and PACU within the L&D suite
Cross-Training:
Staff may be cross-trained in:
- Postpartum
- Labor & Delivery
- NICU
