Registered Nurse - Step Down
Location: Waco, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 06:45 AM – 07:15 PM
Job Description / Clinical Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years of RN Step Down experience (highest required years of experience)
- Experience with:
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- BiPAP
- Stable Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) management
- Post-operative care for CABG, AVR, MVR (Post-op day 1)
- Cardiovascular and vascular cases including AAA repair, lobectomy, carotid endarterectomy (CEA)
- Cardiac events: NSTEMI, STEMI, Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
- Pacemaker management
- Sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), post diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Respiratory failure and tracheostomy care
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Cardiac Stepdown (2 years of experience)
- Cardiac Stepdown experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Driver's License
- HFNC (High-Flow Nasal Cannula) experience
- BiPAP experience
- Stable GTT (gastric tube) management
- Post-operative day #1 CABG/AVR/MVR care
- Cardiovascular and vascular experience
- AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) repair experience
- Lobectomy experience
- CEA (carotid endarterectomy) experience
- NSTEMI (non-ST elevation myocardial infarction) experience
- STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction) experience
Onboarding Requirements
- Signed assignment agreement prior to start
- Completion of onboarding modules including:
- Nursing contingent worker education attestation (6 hours pre-hire)
- Onsite nursing contract worker onboarding
- Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules
- Completion of color vision test prior to start, updated every 3 years
- Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and extensions

- Optional: Unit-specific checklist and badge photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no filters)
- Post-assignment hiring manager evaluation is optional
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
This position requires a highly skilled RN with step down unit experience and competency in cardiovascular, respiratory, and critical care post-operative management. The role involves long shifts and a 13-week commitment in Texas.
