Description

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit.
  • Care for laboring patients greater than 35 weeks gestation.
  • Provide care for Mom/Baby couplets during the postpartum period.
  • Perform maternal and newborn assessments and monitor patients for changes in condition.
  • Monitor fetal heart rate and utilize the OB TraceVue electronic fetal monitoring system.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to provider orders.
  • Titrate medications/drips commonly used in antepartum and labor care, including Magnesium and Oxytocin.
  • Manage ordered IV fluids and medications such as LR and Zofran.
  • Provide postpartum medication management, including prenatal vitamins, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Percocet, and Toradol as ordered.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal response to treatments and promptly report changes in condition.
  • Provide patient education regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, newborn care, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Provide safe and compassionate care to both mothers and newborns.
  • Assist with C-section procedures as required; surgery is responsible for the C-section while the LDRP team circulates for the baby.
  • Provide or troubleshoot neonatal respiratory support equipment as applicable, including CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, providers, respiratory therapy, surgery, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in MEDITECH.
  • Promote patient safety and follow hospital policies and procedures.
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Active RN License required for submission BLS Certification – Required ACLS Certification – Required NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required LDRP/Labor & Delivery/Postpartum experience strongly applicable Experience with laboring patients >35 weeks preferred/required based on unit population Ability to care for Mom/Baby couplets Experience with Oxytocin and Magnesium titration Ability to interpret/use fetal monitoring systems Ability to work independently in a rural hospital with limited services Strong teamwork, communication, clinical knowledge, and independent decision-making skills required Must be willing to float first when needed
