Description
Respiratory Therapist (RT)
Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing timely, accurate, and reliable respiratory therapy services to inpatients, outpatients, UHS staff and employees, and affiliated community groups as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer respiratory therapy procedures as directed by the manager.
- Perform aerosol, oxygen, MDI, incentive spirometry, CPT/Flutter/PEP Mask, suctioning, and extubation procedures.
- Provide and manage BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow cannula, cough assist, and vest therapy.
- Manage mechanical ventilation and ventilator alarms.
- Perform arterial punctures and blood gas analysis.
- Perform pulmonary function screening and pulse oximetry.
- Perform adult and pediatric EKG procedures.
- Provide adult, pediatric, and neonatal BLS when required.
- Ensure oxygen tank safety and administer oxygen therapy using approved devices.
- Perform fit testing in coordination with Employee Health.
- Maintain quality control for the Blood Gas Laboratory.
- Verify physician orders and perform pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Accurately document and report procedure results.
- Utilize healthcare information and medication systems, including Soarian, MAK, and McKesson.
- Maintain department records and bookkeeping in accordance with policy.
- Participate in departmental in-service programs.
- Follow department delivery standards, safety protocols, and quality requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience
- 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist preferred.
Education
Required:
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program/school.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- New York State Respiratory Therapy Permit or License
- NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- BLS from AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross
- ACLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
