PCU/Acute Stroke Travel Nurse — Simplified

🚨 Must-Have Requirements

  • NY RN license must already be in hand — no exceptions
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS — valid NIHSS must be included with submission
  • EPIC experience is mandatory
  • Must be comfortable with 1:5 to 1:7 ratios, including Med-Surg-level patients
  • Local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted
  • Must be willing to float within your skillset
  • Trauma Level I experience required

🗓️ Schedule

  • 4 nights per week
  • Every other weekend
  • Floating required
  • Orientation: 12 hours
  • RTO: Cannot submit candidates with more than 10 days of requested time off

Mostly adults and older adults with:

  • Stroke/CVA
  • TIA
  • Brain bleeds (SDH/SAH)
  • Seizures
  • Brain injuries
  • Dementia

🏥 Unit

  • 39 beds
  • Average daily census: ~38
  • Acute Stroke + neurological + acute medical patients
  • Tertiary-care hospital
  • 528 staffed beds
  • Evidence-based stroke care
  • Strong support services including IV team, respiratory, PT, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response, etc.

  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Rapid Response/Code situations
  • Neuro stepdown
  • Post-tPA care
  • Intracranial bleeds
  • Craniotomy/neurosurgery patients
  • Central/PICC lines
  • IV therapy
  • Blood products
  • BiPAP/CPAP
  • Chest tubes
  • CBI
  • Feeding tubes
  • Heparin and insulin protocols
  • Cardiac drips
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Wound care
  • Seizures and traumatic brain injuries

Any combination of navy and white.

⚠️ Other Important Rules

  • Candidates within 75 miles cannot be submitted.
  • NY license must be active/in hand at submission.
  • EPIC experience is a hard requirement.
  • Background issues reviewed case-by-case.
  • Previous staff must be separated for 6 months before returning.
  • Modules are completed before starting; total module time can reach 10 hours,
  • Foreign education must be disclosed to the account manager because it may require verification.

Bottom line:  PCU/Acute Stroke night assignment requiring a NY license in hand, 2+ years experience, BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, EPIC, and Level I trauma experience. It is 4 × 12-hour nights, every other weekend, with 1:5–1:7 ratios and floating required.
