Clinical Dietitian

Position Summary

The Clinical Dietitian provides comprehensive nutritional care to patients and residents with specialized nutritional needs or those identified as being at nutritional risk. The dietitian performs patient assessments, develops individualized nutrition care plans, provides patient and family education, collaborates with interdisciplinary care teams, and accurately documents all nutritional interventions in accordance with established policies and professional standards.

The ideal candidate will have clinical dietitian experience and be comfortable working independently while collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments and reassessments for patients and residents.
• Identify patients with nutritional risk or specialized nutritional needs.
• Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans.
• Monitor patient progress and modify nutrition interventions as appropriate.
• Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients and their families.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Document assessments, interventions, recommendations, and follow-up activities accurately and timely.
• Provide clinical nutrition care in accordance with facility policies, professional standards, and evidence-based practices.
• Utilize appropriate clinical judgment, technical skills, and decision-making abilities.
• Support quality patient care and participate in interdisciplinary care planning.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition or equivalent — Required
• Dietetic internship or equivalent — Required
• Master’s degree — Required only if eligibility for the Registered Dietitian examination began on or after January 1, 2024

Experience

• Previous Clinical Dietitian experience — Preferred
• Experience providing nutritional assessments, care planning, patient education, and clinical documentation in a healthcare setting preferred.
• EPIC experience — Required

License/Certification

• Registered Dietitian (RD) credential — Required within 6 months of completion of the residency program

Schedule & Location

• Shift: Day Shift
• EPIC experience: Required
• Floating: Required as needed throughout the Kern County Network, including:
  • AHTV
  • AHBD
  • AHSB

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a qualified Registered Dietitian/Clinical Dietitian with a strong clinical nutrition background, required education and dietetic internship experience, and hands-on experience with EPIC. The candidate must be flexible and willing to float between facilities throughout the Kern County Network as operational needs require.
