Registered Nurse – Pediatric Stepdown
Facility: University of Maryland Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, Inc.
Location: Baltimore, MD 21209
Start Date: 09/14/2026
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3x12-Hour (19:00–07:30)
Schedule: 36 hours/week, rotating N/D; every other weekend
Patient Ratio: 1:4
Charting System: Meditech
Float Required: Yes — within specialty/other departments as needed; may float to Largo campus through 10/08/2026
Call Requirement: None
Note: Peds rehab/acute care experience required; 2 years is non-negotiable. Trach and ventilator management experience required.
Position Overview:
Provide comprehensive nursing care to pediatric and adolescent patients in a mixed pediatric rehabilitation/stepdown unit, managing complex medical, respiratory, neurological, and post-surgical conditions.
Job duties:
- Assess and monitor pediatric and adolescent patients with complex neurological, respiratory, cardiac, and rehabilitation needs.
- Provide tracheostomy care, ventilator management, oxygen therapy, and oral/nasal suctioning as clinically indicated.
- Manage peripheral and central/implanted lines, including IV therapy, phlebotomy, and IV initiation.
- Administer and manage enteral feedings, including bottle, breast, gavage, and NG tube care.
- Perform wound assessment and care while maintaining infection prevention and appropriate isolation/PPE precautions.
Requirements:
License: Active Maryland or Compact RN license at time of submission
Experience: Minimum 2 years of pediatric rehab or pediatric acute care experience; required skills include trach and ventilator management
Certifications: BLS (AHA); CPI preferred/required for compliance per UMMS policy
Other requirement: First-time travelers accepted; candidates must be comfortable floating without restrictions; every other weekend and scheduled holidays required; up to 2 RTO requests allowed

Unit: Meyerhoff, 1st Floor Baltimore Campus
Patient Ratios: 1:4 days, nights, and weekends
Patient Population: Pediatrics and adolescents
Patient Diagnoses: Traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, gunshot wounds, motor vehicle accidents, wounds, burns, feeding disorders, failure to thrive, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, post-orthopedic surgical patients requiring intensive PT/OT/ST, and trach/vent respiratory or cardiac patients
